Last night, Mr Caldecott and I took six of our year 5 footballers to a Developmental competition at Pendle Vale. Despite being up against year 6 children, and with several schools fielding seven players in the group stages, our six boys stormed to the top of a group including West St, Walverden and Holy Saviours, with our rock solid defence of Jack, Bobby and Bartosz not conceding a single goal. As a result, the boys earned themselves a spot in the semi-final against Sacred Heart.
In a closely-fought encounter, the game looked destined for a penalty shootout. However, in the last minute, top-scorer Reece summoned a superhuman burst of energy to break through the Sacred Heart defence and slot home the winner and send us through to the final!
Despite some (understandably) low energy levels, our boys rallied for one last major effort in the final against Bradley. A topsy-turvy game saw Park twice take the lead (through Reece and Rhys), only to be pegged back by a resilient Bradley side. After the final whistle, the score was 2-2 and extra time beckoned. Although our boys were out on their feet, they dug deep and were rewarded for their endeavours, with Charlie rifling home the winner for a 3-2 victory!
A huge congratulations to Jack, Bobby, Bartosz, Rhys, Charlie and Reece – both myself and Mr Caldecott (and the parents in attendance) are incredibly proud of all of you. Well done boys!
