Our swimming team were in action tonight, taking on local schools in the first round of the Pendle Swimming Gala.
Having not competed in the event for a couple of years, we were unsure of what to expect but got off to a strong start in the 50m freestyle, with Muhammad taking 2nd in the boys race and Minnie (who still has another two years competing at primary school level) taking third for the girls.
Next up, our team captain- Shayne- stormed to victory against a classy field in the 25m freestyle and was followed up by our other speed merchant, Grace, who finished 2nd in a hotly contested race.
In the following 25m breaststroke races, Charlie demonstrated flawless technique to finish 3rd in the boys race with Amarah coming 4th in the girls equivalent. Both of these will take a lot of beating next year!
In the backstroke, both Rhys (3rd) and Francesca (4th) put in fine efforts in very competitive races and did themselves, and the school, proud.
The relays to finish were extremely competitive, with the boys doing great to come 2nd, behind an extremely strong St Michaels team, and the girls doing amazing to fight back to 3rd, with Grace swimming amazingly on the final leg!
Overall we finished 2nd school at the meet, an amazing achievement! A big thankyou to all the children, who were a credit to the school, and all the parents and grandparents who supported the children from the sidelines. I think there will be some sore throats in the morning!
