Our footballers were in action tonight, in sub zero conditions at Fishermore, with our A team looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league.
They got off to an unbelievable start, turning on the style against Marsden and scoring five great goals (Ashton x2, Bradley x2 and Shay) to romp to a 5-0 win. They then put on a similarly impressive performance against a strong St Josephs side, winning 3-0 with Shayne, Ashton and Bradley sharing the goals. Their final game saw them play a very spirited Castercliffe team who contested every 50-50, threw their bodies on the line and defended resolutely to steal a well deserved 2-1 victory against us, after a couple of defensive errors (Charlie scoring a great consolation goal). This was the boys first defeat of the year and will no doubt make them hungry to avenge the loss going into next months youth FA cup competition.
The B team has been getting better with every round of games and, despite the freezing conditions, were on red hot form in their opening game, putting the previously unbeaten Barrowford to the sword 2-1, thanks to a sublime solo effort from Reece and a thunderbolt into the top corner from Riley. They then were unlucky to fall to a 1-0 defeat to St Pauls, despite dominating large periods of the game, before losing to very good Sacred Heart side in their final game. Overall though, very promising signs!
