The year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Pendle Vale on Wednesday night, to compete against the best schools in the area, aiming to represent Pendle at the North West finals in Skelmserdale.

In the first game against St Michaels, we got off to a flying start! With barely 30 seconds on the clock, some great build up play was rewarded when Ashton cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the bottom left corner. The boys then stayed tight and compact, with Bradley and Harry solid in defence for a solid 1-0 win.

We then played Holy Saviours in the next game and despite dominating possession, fell behind to a break away goal, with Leon unlucky not to keep it out. We pressed for an equaliser and squandered a couple of clear cut chances before an individual piece of brilliance from Lochlan on the left wing (lobbing the keeper from tight to the touch line!) salvaged a 1-1 draw.

We went into the last game knowing a win would see us through as champions. For the duration of the game we dominated, with Shay, Ashton, Lochlan and Owen all going close but unfortunately not converting. The game finished 0-0- taking us to penalties. Unfortunately, just like England in every major tournament, we just missed out. However the boys showed great maturity and sportsmanship, despite being devastated, congratulating the winners. Miss Rawlinson and myself were extremely impressed with not only your level of play, but your attitude and sportsmanship boys. Well done!
