This morning, Park Primary had a very special visitor for a very special occasion. Today was the official opening of our brand new (top of the range) ‘Steven Burke Outdoor Gymnasium’ and guess who very kindly offered up his time to cut the ribbon? Of course, Steven Burke himself was here, full of thanks and praise for the school for preparing this amazing facility for the children. It was great to see Steven back at Park (previously a student at the school) especially after all his accolades received over the years, most notably ‘Gold’ at an Olympics, which is well known around the town.
He really loved the outdoor gymnasium, which offers up: fixed cardio equipment, cycle turbo trainers, punching bags and boxing accessories and even a very colourful and funky looking traverse wall.
Some of our lucky Sports Ambassadors got to meet Steven and be the first children to try out the new facility, we’ve even purchased an external ‘Boombox’ so the children can work up a sweat to some upbeat music!
This gym facility has been in planning for just over a year now; it all started when six staff and a parent ran the Manchester Half Marathon last October to help raise money for the gymnasium. Thanks to the local support from parents and friends, they were able to raise over £1000 which went into the overall pot.
How quickly a year passes; such planning, organising and grafting have happened to make this day possible. Thank you to all involved and I’m sure you’ll agree, definitely worth the pain, with how well it looks. I personally cannot wait to see the children punching, pedalling, lifting, climbing, skipping, swinging, pumping and any other verb involved in physical exercise, they will LOVE IT!
Happy Christmas from Park boys and girls!
