As previously mentioned, our girls’ football team took part in the Lancashire School Games on Tuesday, showcasing their abilities and competing against the very best schools across the whole of the county.
After an Olympic-style opening ceremony, we made our way over to the football competition and found ourselves drawn in a very strong group alongside the best schools from Burnley, Rossendale and the Ribble Valley. The four teams were very evenly matched across the group stage, with our girls being very competitive in all 3 games (despite coming up against many girls who played for the likes of Burnley, Liverpool and Everton). However, an agonising last-second defeat against Rossendale meant that we finished 3rd in the group, just missing out on a place in the quarter finals.
This meant that we were entered into a separate knockout competition to determine our final ranking place. Despite performing admirably in the stifling heat (and with Mrs Midgley and Mrs Greenwood paying a surprise visit to cheer them on!), our girls were narrowly beaten by Blackpool.
Overall, our girls finished in 10th place, which, when considering the hundreds of schools who will have taken part in girls’ football across Lancashire this year, is a remarkable achievement. Well done girls, I know myself and Mr Caldecott are incredibly proud of you all.
